It was a surprisingly good night of sleep for Lily. It wasn’t often she managed to feel completely rested without the help of her medication. On the other hand, having not gotten proper sleep in ages it was a bit of a shocking experience when someone gave her a gentle poke forcing her out of that restful sleep. She let out a slight groan, easing her eyes open to see Serrah’s smiling face only a few inches from hers, “Mornin’ sleepyhead! Time to get up. I brought you coffee!” Serrah held up a Naturefoam cup which had steam rising from the lid to accentuate her point. Lily grumbled and rolled over, tugging her blankets up and over her head, “Gimme a bit longer will you?” Serrah set down the coffee cup and with a WHOOSH, ripped the blankets straight off of her, “Nope. If you sleep much longer, not only will you not make it to the trade show. You’ll also not have enough time to get to Professor Barnes. So, up up up so we can go already! Also, there are some really cool demos at the

The walk back from the Pony facility was a fairly hefty one and it had been one of the few times she’d considered taking the pony-pulled rickshaw back to the school. But stubborn as she was she’d decided to walk which, took up more time but also gave her space to think. The intent was for her to choose one of the extracurricular activities to get her grades back on track, purely thanks to Professor Barnes' string pulling. But after seeing what this may entail she was more than a bit torn. The swim club looked fun, as did the music club. And while the ponies had been nice, she had no intention of stepping into hooves. Even if it had been rather fun. More so than she’d expected. Tossing ideas around in her head she walked up to the school, warming her hands in the pockets built into the school uniform's skirt she looked up at the cotton candy-colored sky. After touring with Lemondrop the entire day it was late enough that the sun was now setting behind the school. Lily enjoyed the

“Well hello. And who might YOU be?” Asked a blonde-haired woman in a lab coat, she leaned in nearly nose-to-nose with Lily after Lemondrop brought her into the clinic. “I’m uh…Lily. Ember the Great sent me your way” She managed to stammer before stepping back to regain a bit of her personal space and glancing over her shoulder at Lemondrop who offered her a playful wink before turning back and chatting with the well-dressed raven-haired man she’d bumped into. “Lily huh?” The woman tapped her chin thoughtfully, “Don’t believe I have a Lily on my list. But I guess if Ember sent you my way you are in need of some care. Welcome to my Clinic, Pony. I’m Doctor Lavender.” She said with a confident nod. “I’m not a pony.” Lily countered. The doctor tilted her head, “No? And yet here you are in the middle of a ponyplay training facility, asking to be treated by one of the resident vets.” She stopped and sniffed the air for a moment, “And you certainly smell like a pony.” The doctor

~Should I be this bloody nervous? This is so silly! I’m wearing bloody ballet flats and a skirt. Then again, they’re all basically bloody naked. I mean, at least nudity is becoming less offensive in society and it’s part of the pony aesthetic. God…I’m not even comfortable in my own skin, I doubt I could run around with my bloody boobs out like that. Oh! They’re all staring. I should do something…~ Lily raised her hand and waved awkwardly as Ember tugged her to center field, releasing her hand and turning to the gathered ponies. “Alright, you lot. This is Lily. She’s touring the clubs today with Lemondrop up there and it’s up to us to make a glowing impression so she has no choice but to apply to the club! So let’s roll things back a bit and take it slow for a match ok? And if any of you accidentally stomps on her toes, I’ll run you on the treads for a week!” Ember cast a playful glance at Lily and winked. It wasn’t reassuring enough to let Lily know that Ember was joking about

The clip-clop of hooves against the hard linoleum floors was a surprisingly enjoyable sound as Lily followed her tour guide along. Normally you’d expect a regular tour guide, but in a school that was known for its pony-based-career-tracks, they tended to employ a bit of a different method. The tour guide in question was a tall woman, dressed in a cute tour guide outfit. A straight skirt, a dress shirt, a vest, and a tastefully tied scarf. All in the school colors. But that’s where the similarity to a regular tour guide ended. An intricate black leather harness was cinched around her torso, it bore a chest plate with an intricate design of the school’s logo glowing in pastel blue LEDs. A matching bridle was on her head, complete with leather horse ears, and a holographic HUD stretching between two panels on either side of her eyes. This screen was a HUD connected to the school's network as well as possessing many other functions including a map that guided the tour. In this case, it

Morning came late for Lily the following day. Serrah as usual was up and about long before Lily even opened her eyes. Though today was Friday and she knew Serrah wouldn’t be home until late in the day as most of her classes fell on Friday. Which to Lily sucked. She couldn’t imagine having the most classes on the day before the weekend. Climbing out of bed, Lily would make short work of her morning routine, dressing in the school uniform and heading out the door. The first stop was the student-run cafe for a cup of coffee and then to Professor Barnes's office to have a chat and see what could be worked out. Admittedly Lily was a bit nervous. What happened today really could make or break her education. But it was more likely she was simply overthinking things as she tended to. Turning her brain off was not her strongest suit. It never had been. Overthinking was practically a life skill for her at this point. If life were a video game, that skill would be at 99 while everything else

“Well? What do you think?” Lily looked up from her bowl of pastel orange ice cream and shrugged, “It’s ok, I guess.” Serrah smirked, “Liar. I saw that surprised look on your face when you took that first bite.” Lily flushed slightly and took another spoonful, rolling the ice cream around in her mouth before swallowing, “Ok. I won’t lie…” She leaned in and spoke in a whisper, “It’s actually really good.” Serrah clapped her hands, “See, venturing outside that little box of yours can yield some enjoyable results! Just like Professor Barnes said, try something new and you might be surprised.” “That’s different. I’m not going to become passionate for Carrot and Daffodil ice cream…” Serrah pointed her spoon at Lily, “No, but you could. And that’s the point. Look at the time I introduced you to that pistachio frappe from Buckstar’s cafe! It's literally your favorite drink. I keep telling you, you need to get out more. Test the waters. Try something new.” Lily nodded and smiled

“It is not often I have a student who is both brilliant, but also lazy.” This coming from Professor Barnes who was sitting on the edge of his desk after class had ended and Lily had come up to speak with him. It was a conversation he had to approach delicately because he believed in all of his students and didn’t want to scare her off. He crossed his arms over his chest, fingernails idly scratching at the edge of one of the strips of the tape holding the plastic down over his most recent tattoo. A series of hooves intertwined to form a unique design embroidered with what looked like Celtic knots and crosses. Lily reached up, running fingers through her thick hair, smoothing it out a little bit more as she considered her words. “Look. Professor Barnes…” She paused when he held up his hand to stop her mid-sentence. “Miss McKinsey, you’ve been giving me excuses since the day class started. Why is it, that you’re one of my smartest students and yet the only one who is on the

The sound of birds chirping echoed through the open window spilling sunlight atop what could be described as a nest of blankets. A whirlwind of reds, blues, and satin sheets had been pulled into the center of a four-poster bed where a brunette-haired female form lay curled up, breathing softly and groaning slightly as an insistent fly kept landing on her nose. A fly that she’d swatted at several dozen times now but every time the little bugger got away, leaving her to fall nearly into that sleeping state again before landing on her nose again. And so the dance had gone for the last two hours. But such a dance could not last forever. The slight whoosh of the door of the dormitory room opening sent the fly flitting out the open window and leaving the brunette to a soft smile and a happy groan as she curled back up, pulling a satin sheet up to her chin and drawing in a deep breath as she let herself slowly begin to drift off to that most delightful series of dreams she’d been having.
